Location and About the School

Hebden Bridge in Calderdale has been chosen as the location for the Yorkshire School of Holistic Aromatherapy. "Renowned for its eclectic mix of healers and therapists, and embedded in some of the most beautiful countryside along the Calderdale valley, Hebden Bridge is the ideal place for the Holistic School," says Emmalene.

The Diploma course in Holistic Aromatherapy will take place at the Hope Centre in Hebden Bridge starting on the weekend Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 April 2008. The course will run one weekend per month, 10 am - 6 pm each day, for 18 months (click here for details).

The course takes place one weekend a month, and we hope that it will appeal across the board, to qualified therapists who wish to add Aromatherapy to their 'tool bag', and to those working full-time who have aspirations to move into complementary therapies.

We aim to offer our students a comprehensive course that will not only give them an in-depth and holistic understanding of Aromatherapy, Massage, and Anatomy and Physiology, but that will also provide them with a valuable forum to explore their spiritual selves. We will also be introducing a range of complementary therapies and opportunities for spiritual development on the course, including sound healing, spiritual alignment, goddess work, crystal healing, traditional thai massage and herbalism.

Get in touch with your intuition, explore aromatherapy essential oils for the body, heart and spirit and how to use them, learn to give (and receive) an Aromatic Indian Head Massage, and make a self-help aromatic potion to take home.

Diploma in Holistic Aromatherapy

Course Content
The course has been designed to meet the highest standards in Aromatherapy courses available in the UK at present. The standards also satisfy the criteria of the Government's National Occupational Standards (NOS). The Diploma certificate, accredited by the International Federation of Professional Aromatherapists (IFPA), will allow you to work as a Professional Aromatherapist in the UK and abroad.

  • The course includes the following:
  • Anatomy and Physiology- the systems of the body and their functions.
  • Essential Oils- in depth study of 50 oils and their properties and applications (physical, mental, emotional and spiritual).
  • Carrier Oils- a minimum of 14 carrier oils, their properties and applications.
  • Selecting and blending oils to suit individual clients' needs from a holistic perspective.
  • The History and Science of Aromatherapy.
  • Massage and other methods of application.
  • Nutrition, exercise and self care.
  • Consultation, client care, conduct and ethics.
  • Business organisation, practice and legal considerations.
  • Research module.
  • Introduction to various Complementary Therapies.

Timing and duration
The course will start the weekend of Saturday 23 and Sunday 26th & 27th April 2008 and is to run one weekend per month, 10am - 6 pm each day, for 18 months.

Application and Fees
The course fees are £2,000 in total (including deposit, examination costs, and use of the essential oils required on course days). Fees can be paid in instalments: £105.55 per month. Scholarships may be available.

Applicants must be aged 18 or over. Please contact us for an application form. Your application form should be returned to us stating your name, address, email address and contact telephone numbers along with a short self introduction stating briefly your reasons for applying for the course. Upon returning the application form you will need to enclose a deposit of £100 (cheques payable to Emmalene Katayama).

The course will be limited to 12 people.
